As 90% of its land area is covered by hills, people also introduce Fujian as having "eight mountains, one water and one field". Fujian has the highest forest coverage ratio of 65.95% in China and the second longest coastline in China, with a complicated shoreline and extensively and randomly distributed islands. Most parts of Fujian belong to the mid-subtropical zone and it is one of the regions with the best-preserved ecology on the same latitude. In 2014, Fujian's per capita GDP exceeded USD 10,000. It also has a well-established network of motorways and railways, particularly high-speed trains. Its seaport, airport, communication and energy supply infrastructures are highly developed and significant achievements have been made in the "Digital Fujian" Initiative. The nine-year compulsory education system, the three-leveled medical assurance system (provincial, municipal and county levels) and the social security protection system are fully implemented.
